OC's are nice if they are written in a way that makes themn believable. As soon as they even near the line of being a Mary Sue, I back away. Remember my angsting over whether or not my OC's in Anywhere Is were Mary Sues? xD

LOL That's subtle! But lately this fandom has made me, well, not fear reading porn, but it has certainly made me harbour several reservations. Porn can be very enjoyable, but it has to be more than just porn for the sake of porn. I enjoy the occasional pwp, but I trust very few authors to write that xD ...I actually don't think there's any authors left in this fandom I trust to write porn xD

I struggle with characteriation, too. You know how I tend to always write Nino as "woe-is-me", but that is also a tendency I have from my preference of writing angst. I always try and get better, and I'm always very happy when someone says "oh, he felt like he was spot on!" :D

Crossovers done badly - Particularly when the author knows one side of the crossover very well but the other half less well...Grinds my gears.

Junior porn. No no no no no. If I see Chinen in a fic....Ugh. (Ohno/Chinen dubcon. I saw, I cried, I rocked in a corner for an hour or so.)

Self-insert fics happen, even if the writer isn't aware of it. Mostly, it starts with an OC and then the writer starts giving the OC their own traits and that's when things go wrong xD

I completely agree with you on the banners and mpreg thing. Banners are always 1) badly done to begin with and 2) just... out of place. Especially on LJ. And mpreg... lord don't get me started on mpreg. More often than not I can't see why the writer chose to go down that path when it would've been perfectly fine for them to adopt/surrogate/find a baby or kid. It never fails to remind me of that Arnold Schwarzenegger movie from the '90s and that's just gross :(

Oh, the OC thing too... I guess it's because they have to put in a lot of work explaining the OC to readers, but it's always so blah and I can't get into it. Also agreed on the Mary Sue aspect of it.

Another thing that really bothers me is when they turn the guys female. Like... is that really necessary? I feel like it's almost... disrespectful? I've only read one that was really good, and that was only because the writer spent a lot of time exploring the confusion/inconveniences that come with "the change." Otherwise just write a het fic, jeez.

Genderswaps, ahhh... I haaven't really read any in Arashi fandom. In TH fandom, it seems to be a popular thing to do lately, even if I haven't really read it. But I think it comes down to the fact that femmesalsh doesn't do anything for me. I like my guys as guys, so I don't see the need in turning them into females.

mpreg could be funny! i remember one fic which was anti-mpreg and the story was about Nino whose doctor mixed up his tests and made a wrong diagnoses xD he rushed to Nino to say that he's pregnant and Arashi were bewildered and worried a lot till the truth was revealed xD
one mpreg i enjoyed was about Nino being a bitch during that had period. you know, it's like AU where each and everyone of them could be an alien, a president, whoever. But i should say that mpreg bored me after all (i do know what PMS is thank you xD) and i gave up to read it till the end. I'm not such a reader who's constantly looking for mpregs to read. i'm not against it, but i don't support it. ppl can write whatever they want)) if i am not interested, i won't read it anyway.

If you don't mind banners, then that's good for you. I get annoyed when I see banners, especially on lj. And you said it - it should be about the writing. I see no reason why people apparently feel the need to plaster a banner that most of the time a) is very badly made, and b) stretces the pages. If there were some kind of default size for the banners, it would be fine, or if not fine, then at least tolerable.

I have read ONE good mpreg fic. It's not that they can be funny or not, as much as the thought of it to me is wrong. I don't enjoy it. And as I explained in an earlier comment, I have no need for the guys as females, and as such, they do not have a uterus. And I don't read the fics. If I read the summary for a fic (it doesn't happen that often these days, since there might be one decent fic in a month nowadays) if I see the word mpreg I just skip. I don't seek them out, I don't go knocking on the author's door and tell them I hate the fics. I just skip it.

But if I want to bitch about it here, then I will xD

Bad grammar. In general. I hate it when the person can't grammar properly and insists on writing fic. But I don't mind typos. Because if i don't read closely, my mind fills in the typos with correct ones anyway LOL.

SELF-INSERT SHOULD DIE. FRIEND-INSERTS SHOULD DIE AS WELL. It's just bad. It should be illegal. These sort things can't be put on the internetz! They should be staying in one's brain.
